Still Life with Pride

I heard today you had drowned.
Can't say I'm very surprised.
I knew the day would come when
Hubris would rise in your gullet
And choke reality to death.

  8. Concise and quite venomous! Would not want to be the person you had in mind when you wrote this!!

(Appreciate your stopping by my blog. I knew the stanzas I wrote were a form of Quatrain, but did not realize they were also called 'envelope rhymes.' Thanks for teaching me something new!)

  9. Ginny - oh, please don't take me at my word. What I know about poetry wouldn't fill a thimble. I looked the A-B-B-A rhyme and that's what I found. I have no idea if it's correct. But whatever it is, I was impressed by the way you put the whole package together!

  10. A mighty metaphor Patti, that is concise and precise. Deconstructing it a little, I found it all hung on one word, "reality". Forcing one to consider "reality" in its depths. To substitute another word for it, for instance "ambition" or "avarice" would change the poem completely. WOW! Great job.
