This week's prompt at Theme Thursday is bicycle.
I have always been fascinated by a pennyfarthing (almost as much as I am by the people able to ride one). They're pretty rare; I'm always surprised when I see one. I took this picture in New Orleans, where I'm never surprised by anything I see.
And now for an entertaining collection of bicycles, both familiar and fanciful:

some great shots in that vid...the first bike, i have seen them in picture though never someone riding one...nice. happy tt!
ReplyDeleteThey are fascinating, for sure! I've never figured out how they're balanced... I know I'd topple over like a wheelbarrow full of watermelons.
ReplyDeleteI love lines. Great Post!
ReplyDeleteThe pennyfarthing is a real balancing act.
ReplyDeleteBrought back fond memories of my bike as a kid. It brought such freedom! I'd be gone all day in the summer on that wonderful blue bike.
ReplyDeleteNot sure I would ever be able to master the penny farthing!! I had a yellow drag-star bike with a high back, flag, coloured plastic tassels on the handle bars & a yellow sparkly seat. I also had these little plastic flowers that you could snap a onto the spokes on the wheels. It was a very pretty bike indeed! I lived on it all year around & used to ride it down to scrubby creek to catch guppies, to the local shop & down to the local pool!! Great memories!!
ReplyDeleteI agree that nothing in New Orleans ever surprises me, either. I hadn't thought of that kind of bike for a long time, and I love that picture! I don't have time for the vid right now, but I'll be back! Good job!
ReplyDeleteAs children, we walked everywhere we went. When I was in high school, someone gave me a 10-speed Motobecane that was mysterious and much too tall for me. Uncomfortable, especially for quick stops.
ReplyDeleteI don't think it's a good idea to ride a bike naked. Seems like it would be really uncomfortable, especially if you fell off.
ReplyDeleteI certainly wouldn't park one of those on the street considering their rarity...

ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful video. Those penny-farthings look really dangerous, though.
ReplyDeleteWow! I haven't heard that song in ages! And that was quite a collection of bike photos to go with it.
ReplyDeleteWe see penny-farthings here in Newport during parades, especially the St. Patrick's Day parade.
I never knew the name of that. Pennyfarthing. And I LOVE New Orleans, too!
ReplyDeleteI can never understand how anyone came to design a penny farthing in the first place. Obviously a result of some kind of drunken excess. If to design a penny-farthing is weird, to actually ride one must be crazy.

ReplyDeleteHappy Friday!
how amazing to see it just parked in the street like that!
