a far way back and too long ago
I remember a time when
you were totally there
life was a toy box
filled with
fun
fun
today
you’re just
there. time passes
there. time passes
unaware. life continues
but the toys and games are
gone and the box stands bereft

ugh...sad....to have seen what was there before...and what is not there now...your tag is a twinge to the heart as well...scary place for me to think on...
ReplyDeleteYes, sad, especially the word Alzheimers. Good write, Patti.
ReplyDeletevery moving - thanks for sharing this wonderful heartfelt poem - K
ReplyDeleteOh, how quickly time passes and how quickly times change! And I hope the toy box finds USEFULNESS again...
ReplyDeleteLOVE the concrete poem - the hourglass says so much full of time and promise and so quickly that verve and vivacity falls victim to time and gravity!
ReplyDeleteA sad moment, when the fun leaves. A very moving piece.
ReplyDeleteBeautifully melancholy. I really like the structure of this poem too.
ReplyDeleteSad. And then doubly sad when I saw your Alzheimers label. The hour glass shape and photo fit perfectly.
ReplyDeleteSo poignant. Really got to me as I'm dealing with a mother who has dementia. The line that jumped out: time passes unaware.
ReplyDeleteSad and hard..I've been there. Sorry.
ReplyDeleteOh, the disappointment! How does this happen? How do we fix it?
ReplyDeletePoem beautifully done. Sad the loss, the living empty shell.
