Stream of Soup

Hmmm… Soup for supper?

I’ve always liked Campbell’s Soup, but those kids?  Please. They look like the Katzenjammer Kids pretending to be little angels while they are mentally planning some sort of mischievous attack on the Captain.

Who was the Captain, anyway?   I suppose he could have been a boarder, given the times, but what if he and Mama were getting it on?  Geez.

And that’s a strange one. Read somewhere that Marvin Gaye’s Let’s Get It On was first going to have a religious bent.  Wow, gimme some of that old time religion.

Andy Warhol had a lot of that old time religion.  They say he was a Byzantine Catholic, whatever that is.  He sure seemed obsessed with The Last Supper, and even did a painting sort of like this one called Sixty Last Suppers.  He ate soup for lunch rather than supper, though, Andy Warhol did.

Hmmm… Soup for supper?   I’ll have the Chicken Noodle.

  1. Well, as a child I always liked Campbell's Chicken Noodle Soup. As an adult, I don't like it in the least.

  3. Soup was always the dish when I was ill. Great poem, homemade always, but I'm sure my grandmother wouldn't have made a pop art model, lol. Super write.

  4. Love the chit-chatting feel of this one. I had never heard that about Let's Get it On. Hard to imagine where he was originally headed with that one! Who knew soup could offer so much inspiration. I never was a big fan of campbell's as a kid. I was a spaghettio's kind of girl :)

  12. Those Campbell's Kids are crack-addled Satanists if I ever saw any. Except for tomato, I never buy Campbell's soup anymore. Give me Progresso or Bear Creek!

  14. Just followed your lead to a really interesting article on Warhol and his private religiousness. I wasn't even aware of his Last Supper - http://spacecollective.org/Reckon/3347/Andy-Warhols-Secret
There's something more in the can, it seems. Well done here Patti. These poems are very informative and this was especially good. G.

  16. I think this one must be a little parochial, I didnt' understand the 'kids' reference. Was that a US Commercial or something? I had no idea Warhol was religious either. Who'd have thought, a gay man, patron of Studio 54 and definitely a bohemian in the true sense. . .there's nout stranger than folk.

  21. Love the humour in this. Warhol and his soup - not quite sure what it all means. I do like his work though. I have a book of his sketches and they're really good. Different to what you would expect. I'm still partial to Campbell's tomato soup. I always have it when I have a cold with a bit of chilli sauce. It gets rid of the lurgi really well!
